Homework Wed. April 13

Review Pgs. 416-428 Pay attention to the charts, so you understand the patterns. Do exercise 29 (Mixed conditionals) Write these out. (Pg. 429) Look at the handout on "Mistakes that Worked" and make sure you have two Unreal conditionals in the past (Type III) and two Mixed (Type III/Type II) If Clause in the past and result in the present. We did these in class, but make sure you understand them and that your sentences are logical. Make sure you have 6 sentences about Joan's Time Mgt. 3 about her weekday activities and 3 about her weekend activities. Be sure to do Exercise III on this handout. Look at your own time chart and write unreal present sentences (Type II). What would you do differently if you could? I'M GOING TO COLLECT ALL THIS AND I DON'T WANT LATE WORK!

Homework Wednesday -April 6

Review Pgs. 416-420 Chapter 20 - Conditionals. Be sure to understand the three types of conditionals. Do the practice handout I gave out in class. For students who are out this week, do all the exercises in the book on these pages and correct them yourselves with the answer key. This is a good to practice if you have to be out this week. Since the book doesn't give many exercises on this, there is a hand-out. Get this paper from another student and work on it.

Suggestions for Studying Midterm

Hello students!
Here is how the test is structured.
Section I
Write 5 questions in different tenses

SectionII
Take 5 questions and embed them into sentences Ex. Can you tell me. . . . .?

Section III
Change the following examples of direct speech into indirect speech - Make sure you use the sequence of verb tenses

Section IV
Combine two sentences into one, with an adjective clause. There will be one each for the following words: who, whom, which, whose, when and where

Section V
Essay - You will have to use 4 different verb tenses and 1 direct quote.

Pay attention to p. q. and r. When the reporting verb is in the simple present (She says, He wants to know etc.) the noun clause (the reported speech) doesn't change tenses.

Do Exercise 15 on Handout

Read The Star Ledger article "More Schools Turn to Uniforms to Instill Pride"
Copy all direct quotes and then change them to Reported speech. You can paraphrase a little.

We are going to work on these in class, so if you are still confused, we will go over your concerns.
